The Week Ahead: Trump vs Harris US Election Showdown – 01/11/24
The US presidential election race reaches its conclusion. Markets have apparently moved to price in a Trump victory but the polling data suggest it remains, even to the last, far too close to call. The result will of course have a significant and lasting impact on financial markets. Meanwhile the attention will immediately switch to the central banks with the Federal Reserve and Bank of England expected to cut interest rates on Thursday. But could the Bank of England hold fire after the Budget pushed up rates? A soft payrolls report on Friday means the Fed is very likely to trim rates.
